Slate patio in Barnet after cleaning and repointing
North London

We have been working this area for years

The strip of North London between Stanmore and Cockfosters has been part of our patch for a long time. Before our old website was hacked and taken down, the two busiest local pages on it were Hadley Wood and Totteridge, and the work that came through them was some of the best we did. This page puts that back.

It is a particular kind of property round here: large detached houses, long drives in block paving or gravel, wide stone terraces, mature trees over most of it and render or painted walls that go green on the shaded side. Big surfaces, old growth and clients who expect high-quality results.

Where we work

The Barnet belt, town by town

These six are the core of it. We also work in Cockfosters and Whetstone, and out to the villages on the Hertfordshire side of the M25.

Barnet

High Barnet, New Barnet and Arkley. The busiest part of the belt for us, and the one people search for most – Victorian and Edwardian frontages, brick paviours and a lot of north-facing walls that go green.

Hadley Wood

Large plots, gated frontages and private roads off Beech Hill and Camlet Way, where we visit regularly for our repeat customers.

Totteridge

Totteridge Lane, Totteridge Common and the conservation area around them. Big houses, long approaches and mature trees, which means more leaf fall and more algae than the streets either side of it.

Mill Hill

Mill Hill Village and the Ridgeway, down to Mill Hill Broadway. Wide driveways, stone steps and terracing that has usually not been touched in years.

Edgware

Edgware and Canons Park. A mix of large interwar houses and long shared driveways, where the drive is normally the job and the path and steps come with it.

Stanmore

Stanmore and Stanmore Hill. Hillside plots, sloping drives and rendered elevations that take the weather from the north-west.

Where it started

Hadley Wood and Totteridge

These two are the reason for this page. On the old site they had a page each, they brought in more enquiries than anything else in London, and when the site went down that work stopped. People still find us for both, which says something about how long we were the answer round there.

Both are the same job in practice: large properties, long private approaches, plenty of stone and render, and neighbours close enough that how tidy we leave it matters as much as how clean it is. We carry plenty of hose and bring our own power, so a gated frontage with the outside tap 150m away is not a problem.

Set up for large jobs, not for a bank holiday hire

The drives round here are too big for a domestic machine to clean properly. We run petrol-engined commercial jetting units, so nothing depends on your electricity, and Mosmatic surface cleaners that spread the pressure evenly across the whole area – which is what stops a long drive coming up in stripes.

Anything growing in the joints or bedded into tarmac and resin is pre-treated with a biocide first, so it releases properly rather than being blasted off the top and coming straight back in spring. On a gated or private road, tell us the access at quote stage and we will plan the visit around it.

Harpenden-based, working across Hertfordshire and North London

Herts Pressure Washing has been trading since 2008 and the owner is on site for every job, so the person who prices your drive is there when it is cleaned. We are CSCS accredited, insured with Hiscox for £5m public and employers’ liability, and rated 4.9 out of 5 from 80 Google reviews. Seven councils and organisations list us as an approved and trusted contractor.

North London questions

Yes. We are based in Harpenden and the Barnet belt has been part of our patch for years – Barnet, Hadley Wood, Totteridge, Mill Hill, Edgware and Stanmore, plus Cockfosters, Whetstone and Arkley.

Yes, and they are two of the areas we are best known for. Our old website had a page for each of them and they brought in more work than anywhere else in London. Nothing has changed except the website.

The same as it does anywhere else we work. Prices are set by the job rather than by square metre or by mileage, the minimum charge is £250, and there is no VAT to add. Photographs on WhatsApp usually get you a figure the same day.

Usually. Long drives are exactly what a rotary surface cleaner is for. It spreads the pressure evenly across the whole width, so the finish matches from the gate to the garage. Send a clear photo and rough dimensions and we will tell you before we book it in.

Yes. Render, K-rend, monocouche and painted masonry are cleaned by soft washing: a biocidal solution applied at low pressure, left to kill the growth, then rinsed. High pressure is never used on render.

Yes, as long as we can park within 100m of the work. Tell us the access arrangement when you ask for a price and we will plan the visit around it rather than turning up and finding out.

Yes. Our £5m public and employers’ liability cover with Hiscox is not limited by county. The owner is CSCS accredited and on site for every job.

Send a couple of photographs and your postcode on WhatsApp. That is enough for most jobs and you will usually have a price back the same day. If it needs a look in person, we will say so.
